USATF Regional Championships @ Richard Stockton University

(Above) 2nd Attempt at 6'9.75" 2.08m

July 2, 2005

1. Clearance over 6'8" 2.03m
2. Approach difficulties at 6'9.75" 2.08m
3. Close miss at 6'9.75" 2.08m

I opened in at 6'4" and felt very fresh/explosive. I cleared 6'8" 2.03m on my first attempt by 4-5 inches and felt very confident moving up to 6'9.75" 2.08m. I placed 3rd behind Anthony Bulter (Rutgers Big East Champion) and Keith Moffat (3rd at USA Outdoors). During my approaches at 6'9.75" I couldn't hit my steps right, and kept on running back. I kinda mentally gave up once my steps felt awkward, however my 2nd attempt was a near make with a clip on the way down with my ankles. On a positive note, 6'8" with ease this early in the season with no jumping training is a heck of a jump. After the competition I experimented with 7'0" and almost made that one as well. I have a meet next weekend down in Monmouth and then USATF Club Championships up at Randalls Island NY. I am hoping to bang out a 7 footer by the end of this summer (which is very likely). On Tuesday the 5th I am having a testing session up at Sports University with Newhard. I should test much better than last month.
