New Jersey International Track Meeting

June 11, 2005

(Above) Myself Clearing 6'8" with plenty of room to spare

Just two days ago I decided that I would compete in this meet with little to no expectations. My training has been pretty much endurance runs, and very light track repeats or ladders. I was in no shape to jump high, but I came home with a surprising first place finish. I was very close to setting a new personal record. My legs felt very fresh and I was very relaxed.

Technically I was a mess. My speed and approach to the bar was a disaster. I was basically walking up to the bar I was so slow and jumping off a slow penultimate step. Once I hit the vertical my arm drive was weak. The only thing that I had going for myself was a decent arch over the bar.

Videos can be found in the Multimedia section of the site.
