Training - Competition Journal

December 13, 2005 - A lot has gone on since my last write up. My computer had to go back into repair AGAIN therefore I was unable to update the site. Training has been going amazingly. We just recently increased my lifting weight and have started some plyometrics. The tendonitis in the knee is still hanging around and aches every night, but all I can do at this point is rest. There has been a few days where I was forced to run in the pool.

My indoor schedule slightly changed. I decided not to open up @ Seton Hall and opened up this past weekend @ Harvard instead. The meet was somewhat of a success. In my warm up I felt very explosive and stronger than I have ever been. I took a few 3 steps at 6'6 then raised the bar to 6'10 and cleared several times off a full approach. At that point I was pretty jacked up for the comp to start. I opened up at 6'7 2.00m and had some trouble getting back into a groove. It took me 3 attempts to clear. 6'8.75" I banged out on my first attempt. I had 4-5 inches of clearance. 6'11" I nearly had on my second attempt but was unable to clear it. I learned that I should save my excitement and adrenaline rush for the actual competition rather than the warm up jumps. My energy and excitement level could not get back to the level it was during my high flying warm up jumps. However, I did like opening up at 6'7. By the end of the season I should be able to open at 6'8 - 6'9 on a consistant basis.

With the amount of spring I had in my legs on Saturday there is no doubt in my mind that 7 feet should happen within the next month. My goal of 7'2-7'3 I believe if right around the corner. My next meet is December 30th @ the Armory just for a Open MAC meet. It was the only meet that weekend. It should be fun..

November 11, 2005 - It has been a very long time since my last update for the site. I have been extremely busy with my training, but on top of that my computer broke and had to be repaired. That alone took 1.5 months to get back in action.

Besides the computer problems life is going great! Training has never been better. At the end of September I had a minor setback when I dropped a 45lbs plate on my big toe. The nail saved my toe from breaking. It took a full week to heal (no running or lifting) and I lost my nail as a result. I have a slight case of tendonitis in my jumping knee, but has not seemed to be a huge problem for me. I am in my 8th week of hardcore lifting and running. I plan on running several 200's / 400's this indoor and of course high jump and long jumping.

My speed endurance has never been so great. I an easily complete a 6x200m workout with each 200 under 26 seconds with a quick recovery. The weights have been going amazing as well. I have yet to start serious plyometrics. They will start soon enough. High Jump technique has been lacking but I am not a very good jumper during practices. Once the meets start and the adrenaline flows I jump 6-8 inches higher than practice. So far I have been clearing 6-7 pretty easily and have flirted with 6'9 on several occasions. I have released my indoor schedule and can be found on the main page.

I plan on releasing my entire workout routine day by day to the detail revealing my % of max's soon. Check back for that! Write when I can.... Take Care
